    Thank you for your interest in operating a business in the City of Monterey Park. The Zoning Clearance Application for New Businesses process is designed to assist new business owners with meeting all requirements to open and operate a new business in the City of Monterey Park. By completing this application, staff from various City Departments will contact you if additional or clarifying information is needed.   12. Is the building equipped with manual or automatic fire protection systems?

    (fire sprinklers, fire alarm, kitchen hood system, or spray booth)

  13. Fire Prevention Review

    The Fire Department will conduct an inspection of your business to verify compliance with the Monterey Park Municipal Code. The fire safety inspection is an annual requirement necessary to ensure a safe working environment and is designed to address fire and life safety hazards commonly found in local businesses.      **Note: Inspections will only be conducted Monday through Thursday between 9:00am and 3:00pm**

    To speed up the inspection process, please remember the following:

    1. Your fire extinguisher (2A10BC) must have a current State Fire Marshal tag.
    2. The business must be set up (e.g. furniture, equipment, merchandise, etc.) as if ready to open and/or operate for business for a fire inspection to be conducted. 
    3. You have a valid Monterey Park business license.
  14. NPDES Information

    State Municipal National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit No. CAS004004 requires the City to track and inspect specific commercial and industrial facilities within its jurisdiction in order to verify that stormwater pollutant reduction and control measures are adequate, in place, and are being maintained. The City will inspect businesses involved with food service, auto service, plant nursing, manufacturing and production, storage, and transportation.
