New Refuse Rates

At the August 6, 2025 Council Meeting, new solid waste refuse rates for both residential and commercial services were approved. The new rates will be effective September 1, 2025. Clichere for a copy of the new rates.

Important Change: Billing services for Residential customers is provided by Ware Disposal and not the City of Monterey Park. Ware Disposal invoices include charges for two months of service. 

New Solid Waste Collection and Recycling Contracts Effective September 1, 2024

On March 26, 2024, City Council awarded an exclusive franchise contract for residential waste collection, recycling, and organic waste services to Ware Disposal and non-exclusive franchise contracts for commercial waste collection and recycling services to both Ware Disposal and Athens Services. The new contracts will go into effect September 1, 2024 and terminate on August 31, 2031. 

Ware Disposal provides residents key services such as: 

  • Curbside collection of trash, recycling, and organics
  • Free Bulky Item pickup (unlimited)
  • Free Electronic Waste pickup (4x year)
  • Free Rollout services for eligible customers
  • Quarterly Cleanup events

Residential Solid Waste, Recycling, and Organics Collection Rates

Holiday Schedule

Holidays create a one-day delay in collection service. Waste Collection Service will continue as usual and there will not be any delay if a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday. Athens Services and Ware Disposal observe the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day - January 1
  • Memorial Day - Last Monday in May
  • Independence Day - July 4
  • Labor Day - First Monday in September
  • Thanksgiving - Fourth Thursday in November
  • Christmas Day - December 25

Residential Waste Collection Program 

Ware Disposal provides the City’s residential waste collection services. Residential customers include single-family homes and multi-family complexes. All customers will receive the minimum collection service to include a subscription of trash, recycling and organic waste collection services. All residential and multi-family customers with cart service receive standard 96-gallon carts for trash, recycling, and organic waste collection service. Multi-family customers with bin service will be provided at least one (1) 96-gallon recycling cart and one (1) 64-gallon organic waste cart at no additional charge. Multi-family customers can request for additional recycling and organic waste containers at no additional cost. Residents can contact Ware Disposal for new service enrollment or service changes. 

Bulky Item Pick-up

Residential and multi-family customers receive free unlimited on-call bulky item collections (including up to four electronic waste collections annually) and holiday tree collection. To schedule a pickup, contact  Ware Disposal at 626-225-2400 or mpinfo@waredisposal.com

E-Waste Collection

E-waste such as a television, computer, or printer is NOT considered a bulky item. Ware Disposal accepts residential e-waste four (4) times a year at no charge. Call Ware Disposal at 877-714-9273 to schedule an e-waste pick-up. You can also call (800) 98-TOXIC for information on proper disposal.

LA County, in cooperation with several cities, hosts FREE Household Hazardous and E-Waste Collection Events every month at various locations in LA County.

Electronics can include those devices that utilize electrical wiring, plug into an electric outlet, or take a battery or light bulb. Examples include (but are not limited to): computers and accessories, circuit boards, extension cords, flash lights, microwaves, phones, stereos, and televisions.

Prohibited Items in Containers

State law prohibits the disposal of hazardous material into your containers. For proper disposal options, visit the Household Hazardous Waste webpage. We also ask that you do not place bulky items, construction debris, E-waste, or automotive parts in your containers.

Self-Haulers

If you intend to self-haul your  waste rather than subscribe to the service offered by your refuse service provider, you must register with the city by completing and submitting a Self-Hauler Application.  Per Monterey Park Municipal Code Section 6.15.100, Self-haulers must source separate all recyclable materials and organic waste (materials that city otherwise requires generators to separate for collection in the City's organics and recycling collection program) generated on site from solid waste or must haul organic waste to a high diversion organic waste processing facility as required by Section 18984.3 of SB1383 state regulations. Self-haulers must keep a record of the amount of recycling and organic waste delivered to each solid waste facility, operation, activity, or property that processes or recovers organic waste; these records must be kept for a minimum of five years and are subject to inspection by the city upon request. 

Permits granted under the self-hauler program are valid from date of issuance through August 31, 2024. Renewal applications must be received each year by or before August 1 along with a Waste Hauler Annual Reporting form. If granted, the permit is not transferable to any person, business or corporation, from the party to whom it was originally issued. 

Commercial Waste Collection Program

The city has a non-exclusive franchise agreements for commercial and temporary waste collection and recycling services with Ware Disposal and Athens Services. To subscribe to services contact each hauler directly.
