Special City Council Meeting Scheduled for January 21 to Consider Data Center Moratorium and Environmental Impact Report Requirement
The City of Monterey Park will hold a Special City Council Meeting on Wednesday, January 21st at 6:30 p.m., to be conducted concurrently with the regularly scheduled City Council meeting in the Council Chambers at 320 West Newmark Avenue.
At the Special Meeting, the City Council will consider an item that would establish a temporary moratorium on data centers in Monterey Park and require the preparation of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) as a condition of any future development agreement for proposed data center projects within the City.
The item is being brought forward at the request of Councilmember Vinh Ngo, District 5, to allow the City time to evaluate environmental and community impacts associated with data center development.
“This item brings forward policy considerations related to data center development,” said Councilmember Vinh Ngo. “It provides an opportunity for the City Council to discuss environmental review requirements and next steps.”
