Junior Friends
Volunteer Guidelines
Junior Friends is a teen volunteer group at the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library.
Membership
In order to become a member, you must complete the application. You can download an application here, at the Reference Desk or at one of the club meetings.
Meetings
Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursday in the Friends Room at 4:30 pm. For details, call the Reference Desk at (626) 307-1368. Note: Meeting days will change to the 2nd and 4th Friday starting October 2023.
Hours
Volunteers are in charge of keeping track of their own hours. Volunteers may use hours from Junior Friends related services for other clubs, but teens are responsible for reporting and monitoring their hours.
Absences
Volunteers may be excused from meetings or an event as long as they give the President or the Secretary ample notice.
Requirements
To remain active in the club, volunteers must complete the following:
- At least three (3) hours a month
- Two (2) teen library events per year
- No more than five (5) unexcused absences from meetings

Junior Friends Board Member Positions
The Junior Friends is guided by a peer group known as the Junior Friends Board. Teens can nominate or run for a board member position every year to gain leadership experience.
The following positions make up the Junior Friends Board:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Publicity Chairperson
- Historian

Elections run at the start of the end of the school year in May.
