New Year Film Screening

February 2, Friends Room, 2 pm 

Kick off the Library’s Chinese New Year celebration with the critically acclaimed 2019 film about a headstrong Chinese American woman who returns to China to say goodbye to her grandmother. This film is rated R and runs 100 minutes.  

Business Start-Up & Business Plan Workshop 

Tuesday, February 4 & 11, Study Room 1, 4:30-5:30 pm Need advice on starting your own business? Meet with Chinatown Service Center (CSC) to learn more about getting your business off the ground. To register, contact Elaine Peng at (213) 808-1751 or  The workshop on February 4 will be conducted in English and the February 11 workshop will be conducted in Chinese.

New Year Celebration 

February 9, Barnes Park Amphitheater, 2 - 4 pm 

Celebrate Chinese New Year with Chinese folk music, dancing, and singing at Barnes Park Amphitheater with the Library. This event is for all ages with refreshments and a chance to win exciting prizes. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Monterey Park Library and the City of Monterey Park.

Basic Computer Class in Vietnamese

Mondays, February 3, 10, 24, Friends Room, 7 - 8:30 pm 

This series offers beginning instruction for first time computer users such as basic computer operation, learning how to use a computer keyboard, operating a computer mouse, and basic instruction on Windows 10.  To register for these free classes, contact the Reference Desk at (626) 304-1368. 

Open Computer Lab

Tuesdays, Friends Room, 6 - 7 pm 

The lab is designed to offer reinforcement and practice time for students and is open to those who need personalized help with computer programs such as e-mail, Microsoft Office, and the internet. Registration is not required, but seating is limited to a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, contact the Reference Desk (626) 304-1368.  

iPhone & Android Workshop with California Phones 

Saturday, February 8 & 22, Friends Room, 10:30 am 

Having difficulty seeing, or hearing, on your smartphone?  Attend this training to learn how to make your phone work better for you!  To register, contact the Reference Desk (626) 304-1368 or email iPhone workshop will be on February 8 and the Android workshop will be on February 22.    

Free Legal Assistance Clinic 

February 11, Friends Room, 6 - 8 pm 

Volunteer attorneys will be on hand to answer legal questions at a free legal assistance clinic sponsored by the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA).  For more information and to register for the free legal assistance clinics, contact the Reference Desk (626) 304-1368. 

Wednesday Matinee

February 19, Friends Room, 2 pm 

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a 1957 American classic hailed as one of the most romantic films of all time starring Carey Grant and Deborah Kerr. This film is not rated and runs 115 minutes.
