Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Clinic

Beginning January 18- April 11
Mondays 12:30- 6:30 p.m.
Thursdays 10:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Individuals or families whose income is less than $63,500 are invited to participate in Chinatown Service Center’s free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Clinic. This program helps U.S. residents or legal Green Card holders prepare their 2023 federal and state income tax returns. Services are by appointment only. Saturday, March 9 and 23, 10:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. in the Computer Lab
Haven Neighborhood Services will present VITA clinics on Saturdays. This service helps low-to moderate-income individuals, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited-English speakers file their taxes each year. Tax preparation services will be conducted in Spanish, English and Mandarin. For more information about the program or to register, call Adult Services.  .

Crafternoon Tea

Saturday March 23 at 2 p.m. in the Friends Room
Join other crafters to share ideas, compare projects, or simply chat while you work! Bring your own supplies or use provided supplies to craft away. 

Introduction to Tinkercad

Did you know that the Library offers free 3D printing services? Learn how to create your own 3D printing file using the Tinkercad online modeling program and have it printed at the Library for free! This program is designed for patrons aged 12 and up. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Art HERstory

Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. in the Friends Room
Celebrate Women’s History Month by learning about famous female artists and their work. Art supplies will be provided to give you the chance to try your hand at their styles. 

Free Legal Assistance Clinic

Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. in the Friends Room
Volunteer attorneys will be on hand to answer questions at the free legal assistance clinic sponsored by the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA) and Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Southern California (AJSOCAL). Attorneys will answer questions about immigration, criminal law, civil matters, estate planning, government benefits, labor and employment. Registration is required. Job Seeker Support

Wednesday, March 13 at 2-4 p.m. in the Computer Lab
Chinatown Service Center will offer 30-minute one-on-one appointments to help write resumes or cover letters, as well as offering job-seeking tips. The Potato Chip Queen of Monterey Park

Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. in the Friends Room
Celebrate National Potato Chip Day with a fascinating talk about local business icon, Laura Scudder, and a delectable session of potato chip tasting! In the 1920s, Scudder defied convention by turning a simple potato chip into a million-dollar empire. The talk will be presented by Emmy-nominated TV writer/producer Ellen Sandler who wrote an article on Scudder for The Food Journal of the Culinary Historians of Southern California

Calling all mystery fans: Hercule Poirot needs your help solving his latest whodunit! The clues are gathered, the suspects have been questioned, but can you figure out the criminal? Work together or alone in this immersive puzzle game to solve the mystery. Light refreshments will be provided. 

Get Fit While You Sit

Join staff on the second Friday of each month at 10 a.m. as we practice pose to learn how to maintain flexibility, improve posture and boost memory, concentration and focus with simple brain exercises. Staff will conduct these sessions in English. To register, call Adult Services.

If you have a computer, phone or tablet that you need assistance with, come to Technology Help, where a Library staff member will be present to answer your questions. Computers will also be available for one-on-one help with the internet or email. Help is limited on a first-come, first-served basis.

Stay after the movie for an optional small group discussion about the movie where we will discuss the characters and ideas in the film, and what we liked - or did not like - about it.

Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans. She's Beautiful When She's Angry: The History of the Women’s Liberation Movement

Commemorate Women’s History Month with this provocative, rousing and often humorous account of the birth of the modern women’s liberation movement in the late 1960s through to its contemporary manifestations in the new millennium, direct from the women who lived it. This movie is not rated and runs for 92 minutes.
