The City of Monterey Park partnered with BikeSGV, Baldwin Park, San Gabriel, El Monte and South El Monte to develop the San Gabriel Valley Bicycle Master Plan. The plan guides the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive bicycle network for the next 20 years with a bicycling promotion, education and supportive policies. The majority of the City's current bikeway network consists of the bike paths along the San Gabriel River and Rio Hondo. The plan proposes a variety of enhancements to the network such as shared-use paths, bike lanes, and signed bike routes. The adoption of the Bicycle Master Plan on will allow the City and the other partner cities to be highly competitive when applying for State and Federal grants to implement priority bicycle projects and programs.
The Bike Plan team conducted extensive public outreach, including outreach booths at dozens of community events; jurisdiction-wide meetings in each of the five partner cities; information kiosks throughout the region; youth workshops; nearly 500 online and hard-copy surveys; and a project website with polls, suggestion forms, and interactive mapping tools.
The City Council adopted the Bicycle Master Plan on December 3, 2014.
The plan in its entirety can be viewed at: Bike Plan.
