The Monterey Park Police Department Community Engagement Bureau provides a variety of services to its residents and business.
Tours of the Monterey Park Police Department are available year round. The tours are given to groups of students from local schools, and community groups. The tour of the police facility consists of a visit to our police records bureau, dispatch center, investigation’s bureau, briefing room, and jail. Operation Identification is a residential burglary / theft prevention program for use in homes. The Operation I.D. program is the marking of property with an identifying number as a means of discouraging burglary and theft as well as enhancing the recovery of stolen property.
The Operation I.D. program has two basic parts:
- Mark your valuables with your driver’s license number so that your property can be easily traced and identified as yours.
- Display an Operation I.D. sticker, provided by the police department which tells would-be burglars that your property has been marked.
Marked property is difficult for a burglar to dispose of or resell. The item can be traced and returned to the rightful owner with relative ease. After marking your property, make a list of your valuables and keep a copy of the list in a safe place. If you should become a victim of a theft, you will be able to quickly describe the stolen property from the list. This will be of great help to the police in their attempts to recover the stolen possessions. Once property has been marked and a list made, display the Operation I.D. sticker on doors and windows, which could be used for entry.
By advertising your participation in Operation I.D. in this way, you are announcing that your valuable property has been marked and will be difficult for a burglar to resell. Often the presence of the sticker alone is enough to deter a burglar. Do not, however, display an Operation I.D. sticker without first engraving your property. Burglary is a frequently committed crime in the United States. By participating in Operation I.D. you are taking one important step to protect your possessions from burglary and theft. There are many other crime prevention anti-burglary precautions that you can take to protect your home, property, business, and family.
Keep a log of the item, make, model, color, serial number, and caliber (for guns). All items should be photographed, and the receipt filed with your log. Attach photographs and appraisals for all items unable to be engraved (i.e., jewelry). Engravers are available to our residents at no cost. Any business or residence with an alarm must have a permit with the Monterey Park Police Department. Please call the Community Engagement Bureau at 626-307-1215 for additional information. All alarm permits have a one-time enrollment fee of $53 with a failure to notify penalty of $32.

False Alarm Billing
Businesses and residences receive one free false alarm each calendar year. Additional false alarms are billed on a graduated scale. The first alarm is considered free and each incident that follows will be billed. An example of this is both business and residential billing:
- 1st alarm: Free
- 2nd and 3rd alarm: $77 each
- 4th and 5th alarm: $115 each
- 6th or more alarm: $153 each
The ride-along program is an excellent way for police applicants, city residents, and administration of justice students to gain insight about law enforcement and the City of Monterey Park. Applicants must be residents of Monterey Park, Monterey Park Police Department applicant, or a student 16 years of age or older. Only one ride along is allowed per year. Applicants must fill out an application (PDF) and go through a background check. A ride along must be scheduled one week in advance. A ride- along normally lasts four (4) hours.
