Roles

Under the initiative adopted by the voters of Monterey Park in 1948, the city manager serves as the chief executive officer of the city under the direction of the City Council. In this capacity, the city manager provides the following:

  • Overall direction and coordination of city operations
  • Continual monitoring and evaluation of services and programming to ensure their relevance with community needs
  • Oversees an aggressive program of resource development that results in measurable increases in the productivity of city operations each year
  • Procurement of available grant funds to achieve special projects
  • New commercial and industrial development that expands the economic base of the city
