City of Monterey Park and Los Angeles Rams Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month with Mural Unveiling Ceremony
The City of Monterey Park and the Los Angeles Rams football team will host a mural unveiling ceremony in honor of AAPI Heritage Month on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at George Elder Park, 1950 Wilcox Avenue, Monterey Park, CA 91755. The public is invited to attend.
The 2,000 square foot mural titled “Resilient Forever” by LA-based artist DJ JAVIER, highlights the courage, strength and boldness of the AAPI community. The hand-painted piece is one of the first large city facilitated murals in Monterey Park and features a royal and sol colored dragon and six stars painted on the wall of the George Elder Park Community Center.
“Resilient Forever” was realized by a generous donation by the LA Rams organization to recognize the month of May as AAPI Heritage Month and celebrate the many cultures and rich history of the AAPI community.
Following the mural unveiling, the Rams will host a free football camp for more than 550 Hillcrest Elementary School students (grades 2-5) to celebrate young members of the community and empower the next generation by showing them the pathways available on and off the field. The camp will kick off with a Character Chat featuring Rams staff members about perseverance, perspective, and developing leadership skills. Students will be able to participate in football-related activities, a dance station with Rams Cheerleaders, and interact with Rams’ mascot Rampage and students will receive a Rams-branded t-shirt.
