[ARCHIVED] Monterey Park Continues to Mourn and Begins the Recovery Process in Wake of the January 21 Incident

City of Monterey Park officials will hold a press conference on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. in front of the Monterey Park City Hall located at 320 W. Newmark Avenue.  

City officials will present and discuss efforts to begin the healing and recovery process from the January 21 shooting tragedy. Elected and City officials will brief the public on resources available to community members; coordination efforts in establishing a victim’s fund; efforts to support City staff; and continued public safety response to address general uncertainty.  

The City of Monterey Park in partnership with Chinatown Service Center is offering drop-in counseling and services to any residents affected by this tragedy. Through Friday, February 10, 2023 multilingual caseworkers and counselors will be at the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library, located at 318 S. Ramona Avenue, during the following times:  

  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday and Fridays, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In addition, counselors from the Department of Mental Health will be available at the Langley Senior Center located at 400 W. Emerson Avenue, Monday, January 30 through Friday, February 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  

Additional free and multilingual resources, including legal advice, mental health and wellness support in six Asian languages, and referrals to other organizations and government agencies can be found on the City’s dedicated resource webpage at http://www.montereypark.ca.gov/1483/Resources-for-Victims-and-the-Community.  

The memorial in front of the Monterey Park City Hall remains to provide our community with a place to mourn and honor the victims and survivors.
