[ARCHIVED] Monterey Park Celebrates 103rd Anniversary at the “Happy Birthday Monterey Park-Play Days” Carnival

The four-day event, May 9-12, features something for everyone at any age: thrilling carnival rides, live entertainment, food, celebrities, local student performances, community organizations and the annual parade.  

Monterey Park’s annual birthday celebration will take place May 9-12 at Barnes Park with tons of fun for the entire family. Starting Thursday, May 9, the carnival will feature exhilarating rides; hours of live free entertainment; special guests such as the Laker Girls, LA Rams Cheerleaders and KIIS FM; exciting games; and delicious food items sold by food trucks and local community organizations.  

Happy Birthday Monterey Park-Play Days Carnival at Barnes Park

  • Thursday, May 9: 5-10 p.m.
  • Friday, May 10: 5-11 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 11: Parade 11 a.m. (Along a new route for 2019); Carnival 12-11 p.m. & Free Concert featuring Cold Duck 6:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 12: 1-10 p.m.

A highlight of the event includes the annual parade on Saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m. along a new route that begins and ends at Barnes Park on the streets of Ramona, Garvey, Chandler and Newmark. The parade features local marching bands, drill teams, community organizations, sports teams and dignitaries. Free popsicles for kids along the parade route, while supplies last. 

2019 special guest marshals include: Grand Marshal East LA College student athlete Toni Harris; Community Grand Marshal Calif. State Senator Susan Rubio; and Honorary Grand Marshal resident and volunteer commissioner Theresa Amador. 

Three Great Ways to Save at the Carnival

  • Pre Sale: Buy pre-sale tickets until May 9 at the City Hall Recreation and Community Services Counter. You can get 32 coupons for only $22- over a 30% savings! Each ride takes 3 to 5 coupons. Once the carnival opens on Thursday evening, these pre-sale prices are history.
  • Opening Night Discount: Thursday, May 9 all rides are only $2 each for the entire night.
  • All-you-can-ride wristbands: Available each day ‘till 10 p.m. Friday ($25), Saturday ($30) and Sunday ($30).
