On April 15, 2019 at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Monterey Park Police Department received numerous 911 calls regarding shots being fired in the area of the 100 block of North New Ave. Upon arrival the officers discovered numerous shell casings, bullet holes in buildings and parked cars, but no injured parties. The investigation focused on a residence in the 100 block of North New Avenue, where numerous subjects were detained by officers.
A search warrant was executed at the residence and a large quantity of gambling equipment, narcotics and identity theft paraphernalia was seized. Three handguns were also seized from the location. Four were arrested and charged. Additionally, two stolen vehicles were found parked at the location. Video surveillance was reviewed and several suspects and vehicles were seen fleeing the location after the initial shooting call to 911.
On April 17, 2019, one of the suspected vehicles used in the shooting was pursued by LAPD. The pursuit was turned over to CHP and eventually ended in the area of Hellman Ave. and Atlantic Blvd. Containment was established for the suspects who had fled on foot in the area. Four subjects were arrested and two handguns believed used in the previous shooting were recovered.
On April 18, 2019 at around 8:00 p.m., an additional suspect was arrested outside his residence in El Monte. An additional suspect vehicle, with bullet holes from the initial shooting was recovered from the residence.
All of the suspects have affiliation with local street gangs in the San Gabriel Valley. All subjects are scheduled for arrangement in Alhambra Superior Court on April 30, 2019.
