On January 18, 2019, at 7:26 p.m., Monterey Park Police Officers responded to a call of a traffic collision in the 100 block of W. Newmark Avenue. A female pedestrian was crossing Newmark Avenue mid-block between Garfield Avenue and Ramona Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle travelling west bound on Newmark Avenue. The driver fled the scene in a light colored sports utility vehicle with chrome rims west bound on Newmark Avenue to north bound Ramona Avenue.
The Monterey Park Fire Department transported the pedestrian to an area hospital where she remains in critical condition being treated for her injuries. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Monterey Park Police Department Traffic Bureau.
