MPFD invites residents to participate in this lifesaving program and “Help us help you”
In Monterey Park, the emergency medical service system is consistently challenged by conditions that may render a patient unable to communicate. These conditions include acute medical incidents, past medical conditions, trauma, language barriers and other unforeseen issues. By pre-planning a medical emergency, a person can use a Vial of Life medical information kit to help Monterey Park Fire Department personnel obtain information regarding patient care, medical history and special considerations should one need to call 9-1-1.
Monterey Park residents can obtain a Vial of Life kit at the Fire Department Headquarters Station 61. Participants should follow the instructions inside, fill out the one page form, and add any pertinent considerations, then, as directed store the moisture resistant container in their refrigerator. Participation in this program can save lives.
The Vial of Life kit will signal emergency personnel upon arrival to your home and will help paramedics gather important information about the patient when the patient is unable to speak for him or herself. This nationally recognized program is currently being implemented by the Monterey Park Fire Department and is free of charge to Monterey Park residents and their loved ones.
