Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library will host a “Flower and Fruit Show” on Sunday, August 6 at 3 p.m. in the Friends Room. The show will feature floral designs, and flower and fruit entries from local gardeners. The theme of the show is “Celebrate the World of Gardening,” and is part of the library’s “Global Citizens: One World, Many Stories,” summer library program.
Local gardeners interested in participating in the Flower and Fruit Show can register at the library’s Reference Desk and get more information on the guidelines for participation. Entries can be submitted by adults and also teens along with one parent participating as a team. Ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in the divisions. The event is designed for the enjoyment of the community to view the entries at 3 p.m. in the Friends Room and celebrate the world and beauty of gardening in Monterey Park.
Upcoming summer library programs include special exhibits, programs on photography, film, and art, a family history workshop, and more running through August 27. All of the events are free and designed to engage adults in conversations about their family history at the programs. The Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library recently received a Library Innovation Lab grant from California Humanities to engage the community in a variety of programs that support diversity and family history. “Library Innovation Lab: Exploring New Ways of Engaging California’s Immigrant Communities” is a new statewide competitive grant program offered by California Humanities.
