The Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library invites teens to a Teen Read Week program with author Shannon Messenger on Wednesday, October 12 at 3:30 p.m. in the library’s Friends Room. Middle school and high school students will have the opportunity to talk to the author via Skype about the challenges and rewards of writing teen fiction books. Shannon Messenger is the bestselling author of the middle grade series “Keeper of the Lost Cities” and the “Sky Fall” series for young adults.
Teen Read Week is a national adolescent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). It began in 1998 and is held annually in October. Its purpose is to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users. The theme for Teen Read Week, October 9-15, 2016, is "Read for the Fun of It!" Teens can find a diverse collection of young adult books in the Teen Room at the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library.
Messenger graduated from the USC School of Cinematic Arts where she learned, among other things, that she liked watching movies much better than making them. She's studied art, screenwriting, and film production, but realized her real passion was writing stories. Her books have been featured on multiple state reading lists, published in numerous countries, and translated into many different languages. Find her online at shannonmessenger.com.
