Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library invites the public to two special programs in October celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month honoring the history, art and culture of generations of Hispanic and Latino Americans who have enriched our nation and society.

Artist Miriam Quezada will talk about the History and Art of the Rebozo on Sunday, October 9 at 2 p.m. in the library’s Friends Room. Quezada’s art has been featured in numerous notable publications and exhibited in many fine art galleries. Her interest in rebozos (Spanish for shawl) began when she received one as a gift from her grandmother when she was 19 years old. She was inspired to learn more about the history of this versatile garment and how it was made. Quezada will also show the audience the many ways to wear and use the rebozo.

The Esperanza Flores Ballet Folklorico Dance Group will perform the Music & Dance of Mexico on Sunday, October 16 at 2 p.m. in the Friends Room. Director and choreographer Esperanza Flores has a distinguished 40 year career dancing and teaching traditional Mexican and Spanish dances. The exciting choreography and colorful costumes of the dance group celebrates and honors the folk dances of Latin countries.
