Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library will present a classic film screening of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 1958 musical adaptation of James A. Michener’s best-selling book “Tales of the South Pacific” on Sunday, July 24 at 1 p.m. in the Friends Room.
Set in World War II, the musical/romance/comedy stars Rossano Brazzi and Mitzi Gaynor and features one of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s greatest hits with the song, “Some Enchanted Evening.” Film historian and Mark Keppel High School alumnus Foster Hirsch will introduce the film and moderate an interview after the film with France Nuyen who co-starred in role of Liat. The Historical Society of Monterey Park and the Friends of the Library are co-sponsors of the fourth annual Classic Film Screening program.
