[ARCHIVED] “Chill-a-Brate” with the Monterey Park Police Department

The Monterey Park Police Department and 7-Eleven Stores are kicking off Operation Chill®, celebrating a generation of goodwill and a year of good behavior by children everywhere. On Tuesday, July 12 officers will begin “ticketing” kids with free Operation Chill Slurpee® drink coupons, compliments of 7-Eleven and local law enforcement.

For 20 years Operation Chill has given law enforcement a positive reason to interact with children and teens. Begun in Philadelphia, this program has expanded to cities across the country including the City of Monterey Park. Police officers will “ticket” youngsters, caught in the act of doing good. Youngsters will receive a Slurpee beverage coupon for appropriate “offenses” such as helping another person, participating in positive activities or providing an example of good citizenship. Each coupon can be redeemed for a small Slurpee at participating 7-11 stores through December 31, 2016.

“These coupons are a great way for our officers to connect with kids throughout the community and provide for a positive interaction between members of the community and law enforcement,” says Captain Gene Harris of the Monterey Park Police Department. “It’s an effective icebreaker and encourages non-threatening dialogue consistent with our philosophy of developing strong community partnerships.”

Together, the Monterey Park Police Department and 7-Eleven Inc have partnered to promote and reward good behavior during the hot, summer months when communities often experience increases in loitering, shoplifting and graffiti. It helps by reinforcing good behavior and all around positive interactions between the community, law enforcement and local 7-Eleven retailers.

7-Eleven Inc. and the Monterey Park Police Department invite coupon recipients to chill-a-brate with us in the spirit of good will. Enjoy!
