[ARCHIVED] Monterey Park Celebrates 100th Birthday at the Play Days Carnival and Parade

Monterey Park’s annual Play Days birthday celebration will take place May 12 to 15 at Barnes Park with tons of fun for the entire family. Starting Thursday, May 12, the Play Days Carnival will feature exhilarating rides, hours of live entertainment, exciting games, as well as delicious food items sold by local community organizations.

Thursday, May 12 5–10 p.m.
Friday, May 13 5 p.m.–Midnight
Saturday, May 14 Noon–Midnight
Sunday, May 15 1–10 p.m.

Saturday, May 14, 9 a.m., City Hall
Centennial monument and time capsule unveiling featuring refreshments, a 100th birthday cake decorated in the form of the Cascades waterfall and city council members and officials both past and present.

Play Days Parade, Saturday, May 14 at 11 a.m. with Grand Marshal Ronald McDonald
The 2016 Play Days Parade will welcome Ronald McDonald as grand marshal to lead the procession down Garvey Avenue in downtown Monterey Park. The parade will also include a wide array of fun and festive entries including high school bands; local school groups; dance teams; equestrian units; local service groups, dignitaries and more.

Sunday, May 15, 7 p.m. East LA College
Art and Culture Gala at ELAC’s Ingalls Auditorium featuring a multi-ethnic lineup of performers. Ticket price: donation requested. Flyer and more info at http://www.montereypark.ca.gov/1050/Centennial-Committee.
