Monterey Park’s first annual International New Year’s Eve Countdown will take place on Garvey Avenue between Atlantic Blvd. and Ynez Avenue. The multicultural street fair-style event will begin at 6:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will feature live entertainment, a variety of foods, fun activities and over 50 vendor booths. Scheduled to perform are Taiwanese singer Yao Yao, a Michael Jackson impersonator as well as ‘Top Idol’ singers and dancers. Other highlights include carnival rides, an auto show, flower market and much more. And of course, the evening will conclude with a countdown to the New Year 2015. Admission is free.
Because this event is being held on Garvey Avenue, the street will be closed early in the morning on December 31. Access to Garvey at Atlantic, Chandler, Moore and Ynez will also be blocked before 10:00 a.m. The recommended detours for east/west traffic are Newmark to the south and Emerson to the north. Large crowds are expected to attend this event, which will impact parking in the immediate areas. The public is encouraged to carpool to the event.
The New Year’s event is organized by Sing Tao Daily Newspaper, CMPG marketing and the City of Monterey Park. For more information on the Monterey Park International New Year’s Eve Countdown please contact Sing Tao at 626-956-8200 or visit the city website at MontereyPark.ca.gov.
