or very limited access to language skills and literacy instruction is the key to diminishing this linguistic isolation, along with any socio-economic disparities.
The Literacy for All of Monterey Park (LAMP) Program is primarily a volunteer based adult literacy program, serving adults and families who struggle with English proficiency and basic language skills through classes of various levels, individualized tutoring, as well as group learning. To date, the LAMP Program has helped over 1,500 adults to become U.S. citizens and close to 8,000 children and adults become better English speakers, readers, and writers. LAMP is highly cost effective and impactful, but we need your support in order to sustain our successes.
Come celebrate the 30th anniversary of the LAMP Program and the California Library Literacy Services with us on Saturday, September 6! The 6th Annual Walk for Literacy will be held at Barnes Park with check-in time at 8:30 a.m. Show your support and walk with us! Businesses over 13 who speak English only, and local community groups are encouraged to form walking teams. Top Walker and the Top Individual Fundraiser will be recognized. Advanced registration required; $15 registration fee per person applies.
Please visit the LAMP office at the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library or call (626) 307-1251 to sign up. Sponsorship opportunities available; please contact Joyce Chan, Monterey Park Library Foundation Board Member, at (213) 808-1768 or firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
