City Hall Closed in Honor of Officer Gardiel Solorio

Monterey Park City Hall will be closed to the public on Thursday, August 25, 2022 to allow employees to mourn the loss of Officer Solorio.
Private services for Monterey Park Police Officer Gardiel Solorio will take place next week


Monterey Park City Hall will be closed to the public on Thursday, August 25, 2022 to allow employees to mourn the loss of Officer Solorio.
Officer Solorio was killed while off duty in the City of Downey on Monday, August 8, 2022.
Even though services will not be open to the public, a memorial honoring Officer Solorio has been placed in front of the Monterey Park City Hall at 320 W. Newmark Avenue. Community members are invited to visit the site to grieve and mourn the tragic loss of Officer Solorio.
Police Chief Kelly Gordon stated, “Although his time with Monterey Park was short, we all knew from the moment we met him that he had a heart for service and was going to be a great police officer. We will always remember Officer Solorio.”
Gardiel Solorio grew up in the City of Bell Gardens and was 26 years old at the time of this senseless tragedy. He was a graduate of California State University, Los Angeles with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Solorio was hired by the Monterey Park Police Department as a police officer recruit on January 31, 2022. He attended the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Academy and was part of Class 460. He graduated from the academy on July 22, 2022 at which point he went from recruit to police officer and started his field training program on July 25, 2022.

The Monterey Park Police Department appreciates all the messages of sympathy and support shown by the Monterey Park community during this difficult time.
Although city hall will be closed on August 25, public safety services will continue to be available for emergencies and the library and senior center will be open during their normal operating hours.
