Classic Film Discussion with Academy Award Nominee Piper Laurie and Film Historian Foster Hirsch

Classic film enthusiasts are invited to a special film screening on Saturday, August 6 at 1:30 p.m. in the Friends Room. When cocky young pool shark “Fast” Eddie Felson comes up against the cruelty of life, he negotiates the billiards underworld with the help of a wily mentor and a troubled girlfriend. This gritty Best Picture nominee featuring Piper Laurie earned two Oscar wins among its nine nominations. After the screening, join film historian Foster Hirsch, who will lead a discussion with Ms. Laurie about the film. Ms. Laurie is an Emmy and Golden Globe award winner and has been nominated for three Academy Awards. This program is sponsored by the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library and the Monterey Park Historical Museum.
