Get Rid of the Clutter at MPK’s Spring Cleaning Event

Drop off unwanted items at one of three locations on Saturday, April 29, 2017

The City of Monterey Park and Athens Services waste collection are offering residents an opportunity to clean up their unwanted items that are cluttering up space in the home, garage or basement. Used household appliances and fixtures, broken toys and old clothing are examples of things that can be dropped off.  Anything EXCEPT hazardous waste will be accepted. Electronic waste, such as a TV, is considered hazardous waste and will NOT be accepted. For information on how to dispose those hazardous waste items call 800-98-TOXIC or visit www.dpw.lacounty.gov/epd/hhw. The Los Angeles County Sanitation District also provides information on where to dispose of hazardous waste at their website at www.lacsd.org/solidwaste/swfacilities/recyclecontact/hhw_e_waste/.

Saturday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents can take items to three locations:

  • Elder Park, 950 Wilcox Avenue, Wilcox parking entrance.
  • Langley Senior Center, 400 W. Emerson Avenue, southeast corner of parking lot.
  • Monterey Highlands Elementary School, 400 Casuda Canyon Drive, on street.

Additionally, the City will provide free paper shredding at the Langley Senior Center.  Paper shredding services will be provided on a first come, first served basis beginning at 8 a.m. until the truck is filled.

The April 29 spring cleaning is a special, one-time event that is free to the community. Residents can also have bulky items picked up from the curbside if they call Athens at 888-336-6100. Bulky item pick-ups MUST be pre-arranged through Athens. Any items left abandoned on the curb can be subject to a notice of violation from Monterey Park Code Enforcement. Call Monterey Park Public Works Department at 626-307-1320 for more information.
