Community Participation Commission

This commission will seek out and publicize artistic, cultural, and historic exhibits, performances and opportunities that would bring the community together. and involve the city’s youth in community activities. This commission conducts the utility traffic box art beautification program, Geranium Festival and Hollywood Bowl excursion. The commission also assists, along with the Rec. & Parks Commission with the administration of the annual Tree Memorial Award.

Utility/Traffic Box Street Beautification Project

The City of Monterey Park is seeking local artists to decorate over 40 traffic control boxes in themes that feature geraniums (the official city flower) and, potentially, other thoughtful, community appropriate designs.

Artists will be asked to submit a sketch of a proposed traffic control box for review by the Community Participation Commission. The commission will check to make sure all eligibility requirements are being met, and then assign an available box. Boxes are expected to be awarded on a quarterly basis
