Residential Curbside
Program Basics
Households with curbside collection are provided with a black container for refuse and recyclables and a green container for yard waste materials. The contents of the black container are sent to a Materials Recovery Facility where recyclables are removed before the waste is sent for disposal. Please call Athens Services at 626-336-6100, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

- What goes in the green container: Yard waste items such as grass, leaves, brush and shrub and tree trimmings

Do not place plastic bags, branches more than six inches in diameter, or palm fronds (leaves from palm trees) in your green container. Palm fronds and large branches may be bundled and called into Athens as a bulky item. Do not put hazardous materials such as paint or used motor oil in your containers. Residents can select either 96-gallon or 64-gallon container sizes and are able to order additional 96-gallon containers.
Containers should be set out no earlier than 24 hours before your scheduled collection day and should be placed with wheels against the curb at least one foot apart. Lids should be open no more than six inches. Empty containers must be removed by midnight of your collection day.
