About the Department
The Public Works Department is responsible for providing and maintaining the City's infrastructure in a manner that ensures the health, safety, and welfare of the City's residents and visitors. This includes the planning, design, construction, repair and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment, and operations of public land in the following areas:
- Sewers and storm drains
- Public buildings and structures
- Water production
- Storage and delivery facilities
The Public Works Department consists of seven divisions:
- Community Transportation
- Maintenance Services
- Water Utility
- Building & Safety*
*Beginning FY 2019-20, Building & Safety and Planning Divisions are under the Department of Public Works.

Title VI - Anti-Discrimination Program
The Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ("Title VI") prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in programs that receive federal funding. The City Council approved the Title VI Program in 2013 and the Program Update in October 2016. The program will be updated and reviewed by the City Council by October 2019.

Title VI Complaints
The City may allow the reasonable modification of our policies to accommodate the special needs of persons with disabilities in order to allow them to fully utilize our transportation services. Whenever possible a request for a reasonable modification or accommodation shall be filed in advance to the Department of Public Works by emailing Public Works, by telephone at 626-307-1320, or by mail at 320 W.
