California Division of Occupational Safety & Health
A construction activity permit from California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA or also known as DOSH) is required before the city can issue a building permit if one of the following conditions apply:
- Construction of trenches or excavations which are five (5) feet or deeper and into which a person is required to descend.
- Construction of any building, structure, scaffolding or false-work more than three stories high, or the equivalent height (36 feet).
- Demolition of any building, structure, or dismantling of scaffolding or false-work more than three stories high, or the equivalent height (36 feet).
- Erection or dismantling of vertical shoring systems more than three stories high, or the equivalent height (36 feet).
AQMD South Coast Air Quality Management District
For any remodel or demolition that would cause more than 100 square feet of potentially asbestos-containing materials to be disturbed, AQMD must be notified (with a nominal fee paid) before the city can issue a permit.
