The Library Foundation held its first Day at the Races fundraising event at the Santa Anita Park race track on Saturday, October 3. More than 50 people attended the races and enjoyed a bountiful gourmet buffet lunch in the swanky VIP section. Everyone who attended, whether they bet on the races or not and whether they won or lost, said that they had a great time. The weather was perfect, the location was beautiful, the racing was exciting and the company was convivial. Through tickets purchased and donations, the Foundation raised over $1,000. Much gratitude should go to Foundation Vice-President Theresa Amador, who was the driving force communicating with Santa Anita Park representatives and tracking ticket sales. Next year’s Day at the Races will be scheduled on October 15, 2016. Please consider joining us next year!
Foundation Board members present at the event included President Bob Gin, Vice-President Theresa Amador, Treasurer Richard Gorman, Secretary Dolores Rillos and members Peter Chan, Joyce Chan and Alicia Martinez. VIPs included Mayor Peter Chan, City Council member Hans Liang, Los Angeles Community College Trustee Mike Eng, Library Board President Janet Yu and Library Board member Dave Barron. Library staff attending included City Librarian Norma Arvizu, Administrative Secretary Gwen Kishida, LAMP Administrator Joyce Chan and Children’s Acting Librarian Diana Garcia.
